In the Book “Allegory of the Cave” Plato represent how chained prisoner discover a new world by getting out of a cave that he spend their entire life in and getting to see the beautiful world that he thought did not exists .
In this story Plato describes a dark cave with chained prisoners, sitting on the floor looking at a wall since they were born. They only had a fire burning which made shadows on the wall and that was there World.
One day, a prisoner was set free and went out of the Cave where he discovers a new World. Because he was in a Cave his entire life the brightness of the sun affected his eyes immediately. He then discovers that the shadows on the wall are real and what he saw in the cave was just an image of the shadow. He looks around and sees  the trees, plants, and other objects around him, and then he looks up and sees the sun too. The prisoner educates himself with the new world that he discovers. He then returns to the Cave and informs the other prisoners about what he saw tells them that there is more out there beside this Cave.
The prisoners started to laugh at him and basically said he was crazy. Because in there eyes the shadows on the wall are their reality  and not just shadows.

I am returning back to LaGuardia Community college after 7 years to complete my degree  which I left half way. Coming back to college was really difficult for me because I was going to miss the special moments with my kids and husband. I sat down one day and told my I want to attend College and complete my education so that  I can get a better job and learn more about what out there has to offer me. Without any hesitation I came and registered for  classes and now I'm here trying to learn how to write and essay which  I'm really bad at. As of right now I feel like I'm out of the cave trying to open my eyes and brain to educate myself which I have been missing for a while. As for now my one of my main focus is to educate myself  and get my college degree.

In his essay “I Know the Truth, So Don’t Bother Me with Facts “Jeffrey Kluger discusses how most people are simply betrayed by lies, which I believe comes from the media and advertisements. He also mentions that is very difficult for people to change their minds and beliefs after true data is presented to them. A study was conducted by two researches from “Ohio State University” on how people reacted when learning that there would be a mosque build at “Ground Zero”, this made many people very upset and against it.

Most magazines are full of lies in my opinion. Especially for young girls that read and want to look like the girl on magazine, which I think is not a great influence on a young girls growing up. Magazine also tends to hide actual facts, for example young girls don’t have to look like a model 24hrs a day seven days a week. You can look different and be beautiful in your own different way. A few years ago and even now many young girls have food disorder, because they want to look like the girl in the magazine. And now is up to parents to educate and tell young girls the truth about magazines and that it is just entertainment for everyone.

When the media stated that there would be a “Mosque” build by “Ground Zero”, most people had a huge issue with that and were against it. Everyone just heard “Ground Zero” and building a “Mosque” It was not a true fact that there would be a "Mosque" there, but medai again made a huge deal about. The media did not give anyone a break to breathe with what happened on 9/11, and yes no one ever will including me. I feel like they always keep adding negative stories to capture your attention without any true facts most of the time.

We have to make sure that we have an open mind and learn the facts that are present to us before we make a decision about life and other important things in the world. When it comes to “Ground Zero” everyone has a difficult time coping with the tragedies that happen there and we will never forget that day. But we must also try and understand that not everything presented to you by the media can be true.

Hype blog 1

Everyday advertisement plays a huge role in our lives. they can either be beneficial or impact us in a negative manner. Advertisements does not only persuades us to purchase products but it also makes us look at things in a different manner.  After watching an add or a commercial on TV, we are persuaded to go out and purchase the exact product at the store. Advertisement is making decision for us in our daily lives and the way we look at things.

There are many examples that Kalle Lans speaks about in her passage regarding "HYPE".  When you're at the register in the pharmacy for example , you look at the front page magazine with your favorite movie star looking absolutely flawless with her outfit. You immediately think i must have the outfit for my next event, because i saw it in the magazine. When  Sprint came out with the S4 phone , all my friends were lined up at the store , just to be the first one to get it because it was different and better than the S3. Another example that i learned was about Nike sneakers. If you don't have a Nike sneaker, running would not be or feel the same.

There isn't anywhere  you go and you don't see an add or commercial of a product that encourages you to go out there and purchase it. Kale Lans is right , "No one is exempt and no one will be spared ". Everyone ideas are based on advertisements. Everyday we think what new product  will come out so we can purchase it. We have no time to think about ourselves and what we really want, because someone else did it already.
